How the score works
Only reviewed hotels are scored. A property without guest reviews is not ranked or listed; judging it would be guesswork.
Guest rating (55%). The average guest score, shrunk toward a prior with a weight of 40 reviews. The prior is the city average, itself pulled toward the global mean when a city has few rated stays, so a single review can never produce a 9.9.
Review sentiment (20%). Category ratings (cleanliness, location, service, value, comfort…) from an AI analysis of review text, where available.
Amenity depth (10%). How complete the published facility list is, capped at 40 items.
Review volume (10%). Confidence from the number of reviews, saturating at 1,000.
Praise vs complaints (5%). The share of positive themes among the recurring themes in reviews.
Missing signals drop out of the weighting instead of counting as zero. The result is clamped to 0–10 and shown with one decimal; every hotel page shows its five sub-scores.
Photos. Thumbnails are chosen from the property's photo set by caption and then checked by an image model so that exteriors, lobbies and views are preferred over beds, bathrooms and people.
Data. Listings, photos, facilities, reviews and live rates come from our global supply partners and are refreshed continuously. Hoteliest takes no payment for placement.
